INTRODUCTION

Based on the current research findings, oil palm industry will develop to a stage where there are many thriving industries founded upon oil palm biomass, instead of relying solely on palm oil as the only product of the plantation. If the oil palm biomass could be upgraded from a mere by-product to a valuable co-product of equivalent standing to palm oil, the oil palm industry will then become an industry generating “minimum” wastes.
The first and second ICOPB was successfully organized in 2008 and 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with over 500 delegates from 17 countries. This 3rd International Conference and Exhibition on Oil Palm Biomass (ICOPB 2011) will be held at the Mutiara Ballroom, Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Oil Palm Biomass has emerged as a viable asset for the palm oil industry. Many years of R&D have made it possible to convert the oil palm biomass into economic products including MDF, Timber Board, Furniture, Chemicals and Fertilisers and Paper, just to name a few. Lately, new technologies have been developed to generate biofuel and electricity from oil palm biomass. There are already commercial ventures which have exploited the oil palm biomass for business.
